There are many articles online that will state how great artificial flowers are and how they have a place in our homes, at our work, even as wedding flowers and for many other uses. But in this article we are going to look at some of the downsides to using imitation flowers.

The main problem I have with artificial flowers is that they don’t smell anything like fresh flowers. There are many people out there working on making real smelling scents for artificial flowers. But, unfortunately for them, there are so many subtle smells in a natural flower that they just cant recreate them. Is it even possible to get the smell of a clear summers day into a bottle? Personally I don’t think it is. Until they overcome this problem then I will be sticking with fresh flowers.

Then we come to looks, imitation flowers have progressed a huge amount over the years. I can remember a time when you didn’t need a second glance to tell if the flowers in front of you were real or plastic. These days you need to have a much closer look to tell the difference. Sadly though there are still some glaring differences and for this reason fresh flowers still win on looks. There are hundreds if not thousands of details that nature has added over the years, humans haven’t quite manage to figure out how to recreate them yet.

Next is how artificial flowers effect our homes. Some visitors to our home may think that we are lazy for using imitation flowers in place of fresh. Maybe they think that we can’t be bothered to look after fresh flowers and that we take the easy way out and choose artificial flowers that don’t need any care. They might even think of us as being cheap, we are not willing to buy a fresh bouquet of flowers for our home every week. Silk flowers require very little maintenance, if we are too lazy to water and look after fresh flowers will be bother with the dusting and cleaning of silk flowers, if not they will become dirty and dusty and look terrible in no time at all.

A fresh bouquet of flowers requires next to no care, put them in a vase with some water and you are good to go. They don’t live long enough to gather any great amount of dust. Once they die, they will be replaced with a fresh bunch and look fantastic once again.

As we see there are quite a few potential disadvantages to using imitation flowers. Personally fresh flowers will always be used where ever possible. The atmosphere and freshness they add to a room is too good to miss.
