I love spending time out in my patio, enjoying the fresh air and relaxing with friends. What I don’t enjoy is when I organize a barbecue, get everything set up for a great party with everyone that matters invited and ready to come over and it starts to rain. There is nothing more frustrating and it usually means a party with everyone crammed into my kitchen and some poor soul running in and out of the house to check in the food that’s cooking away on the grill. Of course the problem is that its usually me getting wet doing the cooking, I am the host after all.

The reason this situation arises so often for me is that I am unfortunate enough to live in a climate that is renowned for its terrible summers that always include plenty of rain. Living in such a place and loving barbecues on long summer evenings doesn’t really go hand in hand, especially if you like to organize things far in advance. Impromptu parties always work pretty well if you can gather a crowd when you realize its going to be a nice night, but it can be hard to get in touch with everyone to get it to happen, and many people need to organize baby sitters, or work the next day.

Thankfully I found a solution which meant I could have as many outdoor parties as I wanted last year and didn’t have to worry about the weather. My secret was to install a patio roof over my outdoor area, and the result was sensational. Not the cheapest way to host parties I’ll tell you but it has been worth every penny. Outdoor patio covers allow you to spend as much time as want outside without worry about the rain, although the wind can still cause problems if you are in an exposed area.
