Patio Swings Are Essential Accessories
Dec 11th
Whether you are a patio enthusiast or just someone who enjoys sitting out under your patio cover structure and letting your cares while away, a good swing could be your solution. There are a number of different types of patio swings to consider. You might have one particular style in mind, but there are others that you have likely not considered. We will talk about the various types here with the advantages and disadvantages of each. Keep in mind, though, that anytime you are out on your patio swinging, it can’t be all bad.
The first swing to mention is the classic porch swing. This is the one you think of when you think of an old porch with the chains holding that nice and quaint wooden swing. You might imagine it being a white painted, room-for-two swing. These are the ones that you usually see in the movies where the two lovebirds are sitting, watching the sun go down or gazing at the stars. Well, you can have that same experience by having a porch swing of your own. The one main drawback to this type is that it can’t really be moved around once it is mounted. Sure, you could just put in more hooks somewhere else, but it is a bit of a chore. You’ll also want to make sure you get some kind of cushion as the seating on these can get a bit hard if sitting for long.
Next, let’s consider the outdoor glider. This is similar in size to the traditional porch swing. It usually will sit two. These are just as their name implies, gliders. They sit on the ground and the frame assembly allows the seat to glide back and forth. They work on the same mechanisms as those indoor gliders that are replacing rocking chairs in popularity. These are much more portable than a porch swing, but take up a bit of space on your patio footprint. The glider is a good choice for an all around, portable type of patio swing.
Similar to a glider is a patio swing canopy style. This sits on the ground much like the glider, but has an A-frame type of mount. At the top is a canopy that can provide for just the right amount of shade on those summer days. These are often quite comfortable with padded seats and can swing. Unlike the glider that only moves forward and back, this type will swing like a porch swing, and quite high as well. They are a bit large, so a small patio will be quickly overtaken by this style.
Finally, there are the hammock-style swings and the single swings. The hammock varieties are usually made of a strong nylon webbing material that can open to allow you to conform to it. These are mounted with an eye hook to your patio cover or roof beams. They allow for a more free form type of movement. These are great for a more dependent type of feeling, but are hard for two.
