Different Styles for a Gray Shower Curtain

A gray shower curtain can be an unusual design choice. It’s also going to help you deal with colorful tile. This was a common motif in vintage design but it might feel like now you have a dated space or at the very least a limited color palette. Right now mosaic glass tile is also a very popular design option. When you decorate with colorful tiles you really want to make sure that you get an entirely neutral accessory palette to tone it down.

You can just go with a solid color fabric. It could have grommets or steel clip rings for more of a contemporary style. This really gives you a chance to save a lot of money. Usually white is the basic palette for a shower curtain but you can really go in an entirely different design direction.

One thing that you can really look into is going to use a floral print. Two tone floral prints are popular in the contemporary design style because it focuses more on the silhouette. This definitely isn’t your grandma’s shower curtain because it’s so modern. It also really ensures that you get an entirely balanced look because the floral palettes aren’t going to seem too feminine. The same rules apply to a brown bedroom or a black bathroom.

This works well in the hotel chic or vintage kind of eras. You can coordinate it with a lot of neutral silver bath accessories that are really going to give you an opulent feeling on a budget. This is going to focus on white and gray together which is perfect if you have a lot of white tile in your space and you really don’t know what to do with it. You can find this in a honeycomb kind of fabric for more of a vintage flair. In this case it’s going to be one of the more expensive pieces that you can get but it can really add pattern and a dramatic impact into your space.

The Beauty of Small Chandeliers

Chandeliers have been considered a wonderful piece of decoration since ages. They came into being when there was no electricity. So for the original models, candles were the source of lighting. Gradually it became associated only with the aristocrat and affluent people. Even today the real chandeliers are quite expensive and not afforded by all but the small chandeliers are quite economical and equally beautiful.

Small chandeliers may be obtained in many different styles like antique, rustic, ornate and sleek designs. They compliment with all types of room decor, modern or traditional. These light fixtures are available in countless of attractive designs that just their addition makes a room bright and beautiful. They look great in small bed room or living rooms and also ideal to be used in the entrance or bathroom.

The miniature chandeliers today are not restricted to be hung only to the ceilings. They are designed to be hung up on the walls, corners or even be kept on a table and there are even several varieties of outdoor chandeliers. They can give any room a style and character of its own. They have a luxurious appeal and add depth to even a small room. They are very much favored by the interior decorators to give any room a quick make over within a budget.

The price of small chandeliers is within everybody’s reach. The price mainly depends upon the material used and the intricacy of design. Wrought iron, glass, bronze or brass chandeliers are cheaper than the silver, platinum or crystal ones. Nowadays chandeliers may be found in natural materials like wicker, cane or bamboo. They look extremely chic and are eco-friendly too.

Simple designs may be found for $100. The more complicated the design, the more is the price. The special hand crafted models are exquisite and costs accordingly. They can be easily found in light fixture shops or even can be bought from the online vendors at attractive prices.

Make Your Own Home Decor

Buying attractive accessories and soft furnishings to enhance your home decor can be a major expense, especially when you are first setting up home. With a little thought and imagination you can make things yourself, even if you are not very handy, which can add your individual personality to your home. Making your own items to adorn your home will also give you a sense of satisfaction which you would never achieve with just buying pieces from a store.

If you are not used to arts and crafts, start off with something simple. If you are lucky enough to live near to the sea or if you have picked up various shells and pebbles from beach vacations in the past, these can make an attractive display in a glass vase or bowl. Place it in the bathroom to add a seaside feel or spray the pebbles with gold paint and place the arrangement on a coffee table or mantel.

You could try making your own artwork to hang on the walls if they are looking a little bare. A simple piece of beautiful fabric, stretched and fixed over a wooden frame, makes a lovely wall hanging that requires no artistic ability whatsoever. Or make a collage with family photos and colorful pictures clipped from magazines then frame. You can pick up a variety of old frames for very little cash at your local thrift store.

Making soft furnishings such as curtains, roman blinds, cushions and pillows is not difficult even for a novice and can be achieved with a basic sewing machine. Many areas around the country hold workshops and classes where you can go to learn to make curtains and even upholstery yourself. Once you get started you will find a host of ideas for making home decor accessories with fabric.

Interior Design for the Winter Season

Winter is approaching, and like most people, you probably want to bust out some decorations to make your home look and feel a little more jolly for the upcoming winter holidays. But you don’t need a life-size Santa that howls at casual observers or a room covered in fake poinsettias to show off your holiday spirit.

Do bear in mind that, unless you live in Siberia, Antarctica, or Alaska, winter ornaments will be temporary, so we propose not having your home undergo any permanent changes. Anyway, in order to make your home look most charming during the ic y months of winter, you must look at what the season is: snowy, dark, and cold. People want to be warm in the winter, so the perfect compliment to the frigid temperatures and bleak frostiness would be a warm color palette for your home.

Reds, browns, oranges and golds are all great warm shades. They also happen to be the colors of several Christmas decorations. Coincidence? Probably not. Get some pillows and rugs that are red or orange; if you happen to have a red couch, get some tan pillows, or maybe even put some pinecones in certain spots in the room.

One of the things you might want to change is the brightness of the lights. Things will just get way too visually loud if you have a blinding light shining in your face, so why not get some bulbs with a softer light content? Or, rather than tinker with the lights, invest in some candles, which are in abundance around the holidays. Get some candles with relaxing scents that just make people feel all warm and fuzzy, such as gingerbread or peppermint. Yankee Candles, while expensive, have an exquisite and unbeatable scent, and one of those large candles will likely last you more than one Christmas. And if you want people to feel hot and bothered, light them on fire – it doesn’t get much warmer than that.

Removable wall stickers can come in mighty handy this time of year. Not only are they inexpensive, but they’re temporary, reusable, and pretty darn creative! Embellish a door frame with some images of holly berries, or have some sort of Christmas-y slogan stuck across your living room wall like “Peace on Earth”. If you look in some places online, you can probably even get a full-wall mural decal to hang up for the winter and take down in the spring…a winter wallpaper of sorts, maybe of a manger scene or a poinsettia design.

If you can’t find what you like in terms of a wall decal, just shop around for someone who will make a custom decal for you. In the latter case, you might need someone to devise the image for you to give to the decal designer…this is not the kind of design a professional artist would tackle, so look for a trainee designer or an art student. Both these kinds of artists are typically great at what they do and will take all the graphic design jobs their superiors snub.

You don’t automatically have to deck the halls or buy some of the tacky garland available in stores. Warmth is expressed through color and behavior, not through the plastic Christmas cactus you bought at Wal-Mart. Keep that in mind when deciding how to spruce up your home this season.

Where Can I Buy Vintage Furniture?

Some people really struggle as they look for a way to decorate their homes on the cheap while still putting together something the enjoy and can be proud of when guests stop by for a visit.  I’ve found that one of the best ways to decorate and create a compelling design scheme is to go vintage.  You might be surprised to see how much really great old stuff gets sold at reasonable prices every day.  Whether you are looking for decorative plates for a wall, or a large piece of furniture to act as a room’s focal point, you can usually fine it at amazing prices if you look around a bit.

Some people assume this means that everything will look “used”.  This simply is not the case.  There are countless vintage items sold every week at estate sales or on eBay that are in fabulous condition.  Just as plentiful, and also easily found, are vintage items that need just  bit of restoration to return to their former glory.

Old furniture is a great place to start for those looking to “go vintage” in their home decor.  If you have the time to browse local classified ads, you will often see the ads of people trying to prepare for a move or a total redesigning of their homes.  These people need room quickly and want to get their spaces cleared out fast.  You might want to consider giving them a phone call to see just what kind of furniture they are looking to get rid of in a hurry.  Many times, it is true vintage furniture.  These people are not usually looking to get rich, they just want their space available for what is coming on the delivery truck in a week.  They often do not even realize that there is any special value in the “old” furniture they are getting rid of at dirt cheap prices.  You can often pick up some very nice old furniture like china closets or a  vintage coffee table by going this route.

Another great place to pick up vintage items for sale is estate sales.  These are run by companies that specialize in selling off entire estates in one day.  If you have a truck and are willing to move things out within a day or so, you can actually make some good money just buying antique furniture at these events and then selling it at your leisure.
