Window Valances for all Budgets

Window valances can be expensive and as they are more decorative than functional you might very well think that you can do without them if you are on a limited budget. And it is true, you can do without them but as they can also make your windows look a million dollars you might want to think about whether you can push the boat out a little. After all, everyone has curtains or blinds but not so many bother adding the perfect finishing touch with a valance.

If you would like to decorate your windows with valances but you don’t have a lot of money to spare, here are a few things to try.

1. Use a Scarf Valance

A scarf valance is a simple length of fabric which you loop over a drapery rod and fasten into place. It looks stunning yet it can cost next to nothing. Choose a soft fabric like muslin or anything which drapes well and simply cut the fabric to size. To get the length practice with a long length of spare fabric or simply use a piece of cord to work out the shape of the valance and the length of “tail” you would like to leave hanging at the sides of the curtains. The valance should be in a color which works well with the curtains or blinds and other items in the room.

2. Look for Valances in Sales

If you are more interested in traditional ready made or custom valances look out for sales in local department stores. These happen quite frequently but often do not last more than a few days so keep an eye out in local newspapers and store windows for them. You should be able to get a reduction on the cost of fabric and on the making of a custom valance at sale time. If you would like ready made valances they are often reduced at the end of season when designs are changing. It does not matter if it is the end of a line for your valance as long as it is just right for your windows!

3. Buy Online

Valances are often more keenly priced on the web than they are in a local store, perhaps because it is easier for you to go shopping on a competitor site. When you buy valances online be sure to include shipping charges when you do your pricing calculations.

Eyelet Lace Curtains

When hanging new curtains you’ve got to give some consideration to the way they are going to be hung. Tab top curtains are a simple way to create a stylish, yet casual looking curtain that is easy to slide onto a curtain rod. Another simple method for hanging curtains is by using metal eyelets that have been punched into the curtains.

Eyelet curtains are particularly effective when used with light material such as lace because the weight of the curtains won’t cause the eyelets to rip through the material. Eyelet lace curtains look particularly nice too due to the delicate texture of the material which then hangs in even folds showing off the detail in the lace.

When you use lace curtains you find that they will look good in just about any room and in just about any circumstance. They can be hung on their own in a lighter room such as a breakfast room or the kitchen and they will allow plenty of light in. Or they can be used as backing curtains behind thicker, heavier curtains to give you the option of using them after drawing the heavy curtains. This will give you light and a little privacy.

By using eyelet lace curtains you have a set of curtains that are particularly easy to open and close thanks to the metal eyelets that run smoothly over the curtain rod. This means that there will be little chance that they will catch as other types of curtains tend to do, particularly the curtains that have sewn fitted seams.

When buying lace curtains, take a moment to look at eyelet lace curtains and see just how attractive the drop of the material looks and how suited they are for the lace material. The texture and the color of the material will help to make any room more of a showpiece for the rest of the home.
