Winter is rolling in and sometimes the only protection from chills is a set of flannel sheets.  Their warm, cozy feel keeps out the cold while you are hitting the snooze button or just lounging on the couch.  They can also help to keep the heating costs lower during the expensive winter months by providing some of the warmth that forced air heating would typically provide.
Flannels were originally made with wool and sometimes blended with cotton to give the fabric an unequaled comfort.  Today, most flannel sheets are 100% cotton.  The sheet’s thread-count is also an important contributing factor to its softness.  A 200 thread-count and up will give the sheets a superb amount of coziness and insulation.  It is recommended to purchase flannel sheets with at least a 200 thread count, but higher is always better!
One problem that may arise with flannel sheets is pilling.  This is when loose threads on a fabric clump together and form small, fuzzy “pills.”  They tend to stick to flannel sheets because of its dense material.  This can be prevented by washing sheets with a cup of vinegar and another half cup during the rinsing process. This washing technique will also help to remove pilling that has already started.  It is important to follow these flannel sheet care instructions.
Some prefer a sateen cover or cotton sheets.  But when the mercury drops, there’s no beating the insulation and affordability that flannel sheets provide.  Also great for youngsters, flannels are said to be the only warm solution for bed-wetters, allowing the young ones to remain warm even if they do wet the bed.
Flannel sheets come in a wide variety of sizes, colors and textures.  Whichever is perfect for your bed, be assured that warmth and comfort is always included.  You can find flannel sheets at many local and online retailers.
