Basic Instructions for Installing Roman Blinds
Roman blinds have many advantages: They are stylish and classy, they are fairly inexpensive to buy and easy to keep clean and in good shape, they do not fade as fast as regular curtains, which are hanging in the window all day, do. They are also very easy to put up, in fact, you can do it yourself even if you only have a few carpentry skills, especially if you buy a whole kit that includes all the things you would need (aside from the tools) to put up the blinds. Kits also come with detailed, step-by-step installation instructions.
The first step, before installing the blinds, is to make sure that you have the right tools for the job: you will need a drill, screwdrivers, pencil, tape measure, level and safety eye glasses. You may also need brackets and screws. Most roman blinds come with brackets and screws included however these are generally only for wooden surfaces. If you are mounting your roman blinds on concrete, metal, plaster or plastic surfaces you will need to get the right kind of brackets and screws. You can usually buy these at any regular home improvement store or any shop that sells blinds and window accessories.
When you first bring your ready made Roman blinds home you will want to hold them up level against the top of the window frame where they will be installed. It is a good idea to let the blinds extend all the way down to make sure they are the right length. Once you have positioned them properly use a pencil to mark where you are going to put the brackets. Make sure to mark the holes where the screws will need to go also. After you are sure that the blind is level, drill the holes and screw in the brackets. Once the brackets are securely in place you can go ahead and put up your made to measure Roman blinds.
