A hot trend in home furnishing today is bar stools.  They tend to add just the right kind of look to a number of different rooms, including kitchens, dens, playrooms, gamerooms and even outdoor patios and decks.  With every conceivable style and design to choose from, varying materials of construction that include both wood and metal, and an ever increasing selection of decorative bar stool seat covers (which are similar in function to high chair pads), there is a bar stool available that is able to meet just about any home decorating need.

One important thing to take into consideration when selecting bar stools for your kitchen counter bar or island is the size of the available space where you will be placing the stools.  What you are looking for is an uncrowded, comfortable fit.  This means that the stools need to be he correct height relative to your counter.  It also means that you need enough space to be able to place the stools far enough away from your countertop to allow for sufficient leg room, but close enough to the counter so that it does not feel awkward when you are sitting there.  A good rule of thumb is that the gap between stool and counter should be about ten inches, give or take an inch or two.

Just as important as the gap between the countertop and the bar stool is the space between the stools themselves.  There needs to be enough space to allow people to get on and off the stools easily and to be able to move between and around the stools freely.  If space is tight, bar stools with swivel seats are ideal for this purpose, as they enable you to save some much needed space.  The important thing to remember in all of this is to make sure you take all the necessary measurements before actually buying your stools.  This can save you a lot of aggravation in the end.
